In April, 27 2018 a Round Table \u201cInvestigation of Crimean Tatar People deportation: Challenges and Prospects\u201d took place in Kyiv. Crimean Tatar Resource Center was the organizer of the event. The Chief consultant of the Mission`s Department of Legal Analysis Ruslan Seidametov participated in the discussion submitting a Mission\u2019s position on the current political and legal situation. Initiation of criminal proceedings on the deportation of Crimean Tatar People is an important step in restoration of the historical truth, punishment of those responsible, protection of the deportees\u2019 rights, implementation of the international commitments by Ukraine on issues concerning of prosecution genocide. The completion of such investigation without a court decision will have legal and political negative consequences. Deportation is a crime against humanity is not subject to prescription, moreover it was completed deliberately neither in 1944 no in 1945 and in 1967.<\/p>\n

Particularly, direct continuation and a component of a single intention to eliminate the cultural, language and ethnic origin of the Crimean Tatar People is a follow-up deportations in 60th-80th of the XX century where the accomplices of a crime are still alive. Avoiding by Russia the investigation of Crimean Tatar People\u2019s deportation and elimination of the proceedings of 2009 \u2013 2011, conducted by the Main Directorate of Security Service of Ukraine in ARC should be estimated appropriately.<\/p>\n

The Mission will do all its possible to support legally the restoration of the rights of formerly deportees with the procedural status of the victims within an fact-finding procedures. The Mission would pay a particular attention to the efficient mechanisms of implementation of the Law of Ukraine \u201cAbout the rights restoration of the persons, deported on ethnic grounds\u201d dated 17 of April 2014 \u2116 1223-VII, in particular in the mainland of Ukraine including the passport issuing to the deportees and exercising of their rights.<\/p>\n
