Citizen journalist and medical professional Iryna Danilovych almost lost her hearing due to the lack of medical care in the detention center. The activist also suffers from severe headaches due to ear inflammation, which can lead to meningitis.<\/p>\n

In November, Iryna Danilovych reported that for constantly defending her rights, the occupation administration of the detention center transferred her to a cell without heating, where she contracted otitis media and now needs treatment. During the session of the occupation court on December 27, the citizen journalist became ill and had to call an ambulance to the court. Before the hearing, Iryna Danilovych managed to report that she had been developing otitis media for a month and was not receiving any help in the pre-trial detention center.<\/p>\n

“Slit your wrists and don’t touch us,” is how the doctor described the response to her appeal to the medical unit of the detention center. At the same time, in court, she complained of a constant headache, and then said that she did not understand where she was and what was happening.<\/p>\n

The occupation “prosecutor” Yulia Matveeva demands 7 years in prison and a 60 thousand ruble fine. Irina’s last word in court and sentence are expected in the near future.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on April 29, 2022, the occupation forces searched the house of the civilian journalist and illegally detained her on the way from Koktebel to Feodosia, when she was returning home from work. For some time, her family did not know anything about Irina’s fate: neither her whereabouts nor the dates of possible occupation court hearings. As a medical professional, Iryna ran social media and wrote columns about the protection of the rights of medical workers and healthcare issues in the occupied Crimea.
\nInitially, Danilovych was charged with allegedly having “ties with a foreign state,” for which she was detained, but Russian security forces did not provide any relevant detention document or court decision. It became known about the suspicions against Irina only on May 7 – “illegal actions with explosives or explosive devices” – for which the occupation court of Simferopol imposed a pre-trial restraint of two months in custody.<\/p>\n

The journalist was subjected to psychological pressure and physical force, as Iryna reported in a letter – https:\/\/cutt.ly\/VXO2SIm.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Mission draws the attention of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to another violation of the rights and freedoms of a Ukrainian citizen. We call on the international community to respond decisively to this desecration of the principles of international law and order by Russia and to increase pressure on the aggressor country.<\/p>\n

Politically motivated persecutions, repressions and illegal sentences in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea must stop immediately, and all perpetrators must be held accountable for their crimes, which is impossible without the full de-occupation of Crimea.<\/p>\n
