According to the decision of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, the “Scythian gold” should be returned to Ukraine. The collection of ancient gold from the exhibition Crimea: Gold and Secrets of the Black Sea, which was held at the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam, has been the subject of litigation with the occupiers for years – finally, this process has been completed and a legal decision has been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Scythian Gold” was temporarily transferred to the Pearson Museum in 2014 from four Crimean museums. The exhibition consists of collections from five museums, one in Kyiv and four in Crimea. Among the 500 exhibits are artifacts made of Scythian gold, a ceremonial helmet, precious stones and swords of the ancient Greeks and Scythians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, when Russia occupied the peninsula, it decided to seize Ukraine’s cultural heritage through the occupation administrations. On December 14, 2016, the Amsterdam court decided to return the “Scythian gold” to Ukraine, after which the occupiers began the process of appealing the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, the court in Amsterdam again ruled in favor of Ukraine, so the occupiers appealed to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. Today, on June 9, the Supreme Court ruled that the Scythian treasures belong to the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian state, officially ending this litigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
