Permanent Representative Tamila Tasheva met with the delegation of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil: First Vice President of the Committee on International Affairs General Gir\u00e3o, member of the Committee Alfredo Gaspar and consultant on Security and Defense Fidelis Fantin. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Ukraine Norton de Andrade Mello Rapesta and Counselor of the Embassy Igor Abdalla Medina de Souza also joined the meeting.

During the meeting, the Permanent Representative drew attention to the fact that Ukraine is fighting not only for the liberation of its territories but, first, for the people living under occupation and persecuted by the occupiers for demonstrating a pro-Ukrainian position. Tamila Tasheva also focused on Russia’s crimes in the occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For centuries, Russia has been spreading the thesis that Crimea is allegedly “Russian” and that it had no history of its own before Russia seized it. Look even at the culture of the Crimean Tatars. You can understand that Russia appeared quite recently\u2014only a few centuries ago\u2014and began to replace the population of Crimea.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Tamila Tasheva also emphasized the fallacy of the opinion that Crimea cannot be liberated, recalling Ukraine’s military successes in the Black Sea, even in the absence of its navy.

The Brazilian representatives thanked the Mission’s team for the opportunity to hear the information about Crimea directly. They expressed their readiness for further cooperation and education about Ukraine, particularly the Crimean Peninsula, in Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yes, we agree that Russia’s seizure of Crimea was only the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in general. In Brazil, Russian propaganda is potent, so we have come to you to tell us your vision,” said General Gir\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the Permanent Representative reminded the audience about the preparations for the Parliamentary Summit\u00a0of the International\u00a0Crimea Platform, which will be held in Riga in October 2024, and invited the Brazilian National Congress members to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
