Today, we tell the story of Crimean Tatar activist Medzhyt Abliamitov, who was illegally sentenced to 6 years in a maximum security colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life before the detention<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Medzhyt Abliamitov was born on November 23, 1993, in the village of Zhuravky, Feodosiia region of Crimea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After graduating from 11th grade, Medzhyt entered a driving school and received a driver’s license. Before his arrest, he delivered dairy products as a freight forwarder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What did the occupiers come up with?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In August 2020, security forces of the occupation administration broke into Medzhyt’s house, conducted an illegal search, and detained him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The next day, a Simferopol “court” arrested him. On March 23, 2021, he was sentenced to 6 years in a strict regime colony and one year in prison on trumped-up charges of allegedly “joining the Noman \u00c7elebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why was\u00a0Medzhyt Abliamitov actually detained?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Medzhyt was an active and caring resident of his community. He was constantly involved in court hearings and public actions aimed at protecting his compatriots and highlighting the illegal actions of the occupation administration in Crimea. His detention was part of the systematic persecution of Crimean Tatars on ethnic grounds on trumped-up charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The occupying power accused the Crimean Tatar of allegedly participating in the Ukrainian Defense Forces in 2016 on fabricated charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The FSB used psychological pressure to extract the necessary testimony from him to force him to sign a confession to a deed he did not commit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Where is Medzhyt Abliamitov now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Since the occupation “court” passed the sentence, Medzhyt Abliamitov has been held in Penal Colony No. 6 in Astrakhan, Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ***<\/p>\n\n\n\n The materials were created within the framework of the information campaign #10yearsofResistance<\/a> in cooperation with the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine<\/a>.
