On December 19, the European Parliament passed resolution titled “11th year of the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation and the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Crimea, notably the cases of Iryna Danylovych, Tofik Abdulhaziiev and Amet Suleymanov” , reaffirming the international community’s clear stance against the illegal occupation of Crimea, condemning Russia\u2019s systematic human rights violations, and calling for the immediate release of all Crimean political prisoners. The resolution serves as a significant signal of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and reinforces support for the activities of the Crimea Platform Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution highlights the dire situation on the peninsula since its occupation by Russia, including enforced disappearances, torture, forced passportization, Russification, and systematic persecution of Crimean Tatars, ethnic Ukrainians, and other minorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document underscores the urgent need for the immediate release of journalist and human rights advocate Iryna Danilovych, activist Tofik Abdulgaziev, journalist Amet Suleymanov, and all other political prisoners. It also notes that the health conditions of many detainees are critical, while the detention conditions are appalling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution further condemns Russia’s efforts to destroy the identity, culture, and historical heritage of the Crimean Tatar people. These actions are equated with colonial practices, echoing the genocidal deportation of 1944.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document calls on EU countries to strengthen sanctions against individuals and entities involved in human rights violations in Crimea and the attempted annexation of the peninsula. Special emphasis is placed on supporting the Crimea Platform, which remains a key mechanism for consolidating international efforts towards Crimea’s de-occupation.
