If you have possibility to say a few words to the Crimean political prisoners, what would they be?
We would definitely tell them about small Ukrainian victories and people who inspire us.
You have the opportunity to write a letter to the Crimean political prisoners illegally detained by Russia, as we are continuing the “Letters to a Free” Crimea campaign until the end of 2024..
A letter is a kind of tool to support those in Russian captivity; a way to make them feel that they are not forgotten, that we remember them and are waiting for them to come home. Here are the details on how to get involved:
▪️ Look through the list of political prisoners and a map with their places of detention on the website of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
▪️ Write a letter: introduce yourself, tell a little about yourself and why you decided to write. Write about what is happening around you and in the world, about films, books, travel, nature, work. Tell emotional or funny stories, share your impressions.
Attention: in order for the prison censors to let your letter through, you need to write a letter in Russian language. The signature of the addressee and the addressee should also be in Russian, but you can also write in the language of the country you are sending from. You can learn more about the rules for writing letters on the ZMINA website.
▪️ Send your letter in a convenient way:
Postal address (sending at the sender’s expense): Human Rights Information Centre, PO Box B-539, Kyiv, 01001.
Email: [email protected].
According to the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as of 28 May 2024, Russia is holding 218 Crimean political prisoners in captivity, 133 of whom are Crimean Tatars.
Organisers of the campaign: Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, PEN Ukraine, ZMINA Human Rights Centre, Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.
