The Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea continues its systematic work on monitoring the situation on the temporarily occupied peninsula and implementing sanctions, an essential tool in the struggle to restore justice and ensure the protection of human rights.
One key area of our activity is the sanctions policy, aimed at counteracting those who violate the rights of Ukrainian citizens and facilitate the illegal actions of the occupiers. Each of these steps is based on the diligent work of many government agencies and structures, and we express our gratitude to everyone involved in this critical work.
According to the new decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, the list of persons subject to sanctions includes 11 so-called judges concerning whom the Mission submitted relevant proposals. Among the judges are persons who were directly involved in the politically motivated persecution of Ukrainian citizens, including representatives of the Indigenous people of Ukraine—the Crimean Tatars. They imposed decisions within the framework of illegal trials aimed at suppressing any resistance to the occupation regime.
According to the Mission’s statistics, the occupiers illegally imprisoned 218 people, including 132 Crimean Tatars. In addition, 979 cases were recorded when the so-called “courts” and other occupation structures received cases under the article “Discrediting the Russian Army.”
Strengthening sanctions pressure is an urgent necessity. These measures disrupt the mechanisms of repression in the temporarily occupied territories and limit the ability of the occupation administration to continue persecution. At the same time, international support for Ukraine’s sanctions policy is critical. Only by consolidating the efforts of the global community can human rights violations be effectively countered, and those who collaborate with the occupation regime be punished.
Ukraine constantly emphasizes that crimes against its citizens will not go unpunished. Sanctions are an essential element of this struggle for justice, and we urge international partners to join these sanctions initiatives by imposing similar restrictions on the persons involved in the repression.
