On 24-25 September 2019 the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the AR of Crimea Anton Korynevych took part in the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting of the state – members.
On 24 September Anton Korynevych at the working meeting on respect for the rights of the national minorities, including fighting against discrimination and intolerance, emphasized the discrimination in the religious field in the temporarily occupied territory of the AR of Crimea and Sevastopol city. In particular, the Permanent Representative paid due attention to the situation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, harassment against the Crimean Tartars and believers of the religious community “Jehovah’s Witnesses” on religious basis. Ultimately, SMM OSCE is recommended to monitor the security and humanitarian situation in the temporarily occupied territory in the AR of Crimea and Sevastopol city, including the activity of the religious organizations in the occupied Crimea.
Today, on 25 September an important venue “A Call for International Human Rights Monitoring in Crimea” has been held with the participation of delegations from Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Georgia, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.
The Permanent Representative noted, that the ability of the established international monitoring human rights mechanisms to work solely in the territory of the temporarily occupied AR of Crimea and Sevastopol city (Ukraine) was of great importance for the assessment situation with due regard for the human rights obligations and international humanitarian law in Crimea.
