On 2 November 2018 the Chief Consultants of International Connections and Legal Analysis Departments, Valeria Pakhomova and Ruslan Seidametov, took part in the panel discussion, based on a special issue of a journal “Soviet and Post-Soviet Policy and Society” on theme: “Confrontations in Identity: Russian and Ukrainian Debates on Culture, History and Politics”
The organizers of the event were the Institute of International Relations (Kyiv) and the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies of the University of Tartu. The participants of the event were Natalya Musienko (Scientific Research Institute of Modern Art of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine); Oleksandr Yatsyk (Polish Institute for Advanced Studies PIASt, Warsaw), Oleksandr Potehin and Mirina Bessonova (World’s History Institute of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine), Andriy Makarichev (University of Tartu), Andreas Umland, as the Chief Editor of book version “Soviet and Post-Soviet Policy and Society” and consult editor of the “Soviet and Post-Soviet Policy and Society”, domestic and foreign experts.
During the discussion, the edition of the journal “Soviet and Post-Soviet Policy and Society” was presented. The disagreements in key political concepts between the Ukrainian and Russian authors and consequences of such interpretations were discussed. The participants discussed the Russian policy and its actions against the territorial integrity of Ukraine, assessed the events beginning from 2014 until the present time, examined the experience, gained by the Ukrainian society during the period of occupation of Donetsk and Lugansk regions and attempt of the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.
