Today, we reflect on the pivotal events that shaped the destiny of our country for decades. These events stand as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the Ukrainian people and their commitment to freedom, truth, and justice. Eleven years ago, millions of Ukrainians, united by shared values, rose to defend their European future.
This day is not only about the past but also about the present and future. It is a day when everyone proves that we are worthy of being free and capable of fighting for our freedom. Ukrainians gathered on dozens and hundreds of squares across Ukraine and around the world, holding national flags alongside those of the European Union—symbols of our identity and dedication to democratic values.
The residents of Crimea did not stand aside; they too rose to defend their European future. We remember the activists who risked their safety and their lives: the “Euromaidan-Crimea” movement, civic organizations, and all those who took a stand.
Despite threats, intimidation, and repression, the people of Crimea organized mass rallies, protests, and supported activists in Kyiv. They fought—and continue to fight—for freedom and democracy.
Eleven years ago, Crimea, like the rest of Ukraine, declared its commitment to a path of European integration. It was and remains an inseparable part of Ukraine, a part of our European future.
The Day of Dignity and Freedom also serves as a reminder that the true strength of a nation lies in its unity. Ukrainian defenders continue to fight for Ukraine on the battlefield, safeguarding its rightful place in the European family—a Ukraine where everyone has the right to live freely, with dignity, and without fear.
We are confident that this path will lead us to victory—a victory of freedom over tyranny, democracy over aggression. Soon, the 12 stars of the European flag, alongside the blue and yellow banners, will once again wave over Crimea, Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Sevastopol.
Happy Dignity and Freedom Day!
