Today, on the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that proposes to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II of 1939-1945.
The world united against evil then, and now it is uniting around Ukraine, which is fighting a similar evil. Today, we honor the memory of all the victims of Nazism and express our boundless gratitude to all those who stood then and those who stand now in defense of freedom and democratic values.
“Recalling the heroism of millions of Ukrainians in that war against Nazism, we see the same heroism in the actions of our soldiers today – the descendants of those who won the victory – the surrender of Nazism on that day, May 8, 1945. And we are proud of the heroism of the Ukrainian people! Then and now. Unfortunately, evil has returned. Just as evil was rushing into our cities and villages then, so it is doing so now. Just as it killed our people then, it is doing so now. Although there is a different aggressor now, the goal is the same – enslavement or destruction,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The bloodiest war in the history of the civilized world ended with the victory of good. And goodness will win again, and Ukraine and the entire civilized world are working tirelessly for this. The national flag will return to all the still occupied territories, and the Victory will put an end to the aggressor’s crimes!
Let us remember the price of victory and honor all those who fight for it!
