Maria Tomak, Head of the Crimea Platform Support Service, held a meeting with a delegation of journalists, writers, and human rights activists from Argentina, who visited Ukraine as part of the “In Solidarity with Ukraine” program organized by PEN Ukraine.

The delegation included the deputy editor of Escenario Mundial, the founder and director of the Politólogos al Whisky news company Alejo José Sanchez Piccat, Argentine poet and writer María Rosa Lojo, Argentine writer, journalist, and editor Hinde Pomeraniec, Argentine human rights activist and Professor of Public International Law and International Human Rights Law Ignacio de Casas, and international correspondent James Gatica Matheson.
Maria Tomak briefed the delegation on the activities of the Mission/Office of the Crimea Platform, current areas of focus, and the situation in occupied Crimea. She discussed the Mission’s reintegration efforts, the Russian colonial policy on the occupied peninsula, human rights violations, and the Mission’s cooperation with states of the Global South, highlighting last year’s “Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South” conference.

During the discussion, delegation members shared insights into Argentina’s perception of Ukraine and expressed interest in the connections between mainland Ukraine and Crimea and the future directions for the reintegration of the peninsula.
Maria Tomak emphasized the historical context of the Crimean Peninsula, stating, “Russians have not changed their methods of repression on the peninsula. The indigenous peoples and national communities of Crimea have always posed obstacles for the occupiers. Today, they attempt to eliminate the Crimean Tatar people as they did 250 years ago.”

The delegation also visited the QIRIM İÇÜN / FOR CRIMEA exhibition during the meeting.
