As part of the celebration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we are pleased to invite you to the panel discussion Preserving Memory: The Heritage of the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine, which will take place on August 9 at 17:00 at the M.M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden (1 Sadovo-Botanichna Street, Kyiv).
The speakers will discuss the significance of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine’s Indigenous Peoples — the Crimean Tatars, Karaites, and Krymchaks — and the importance of preserving this heritage in the context of the ongoing occupation of Crimea. The panel will also explore the role of the state, communities, and institutions in the processes of restoration, promotion, and protection of this heritage.
Participants in the discussion include:
- Refat Chubarov — Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People;
- Olha Kuryshko — Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea;
- Viktor Yelenskyi — Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience;
- Oleksandr Alfiorov — Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance;
- Tetiana Berezhna — acting Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications (TBC);
- Mariana Betsa — Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
