On 18 June 2019 the officials of the Mission’s Kyiv Office attended the «Tamirlar» (Roots) presentation, launched by the SE “Crimean House” in Ukrinform. The project is aimed on search, collection and video documentation of personal histories about the Crimean Tartars deportation to be told by the people, survived this terrible tragedy and sharing these materials on a separate site.
During the event, a historian Gulnara Bekirova told that the subject on deportation of the Indigenous People of Crimea had been closed down since the Soviet times. Near 80 per cent of Crimean Tartar activists were convicted for their attempts to highlight the truth about the tragic events of 1944 in the documents of national movement. The historian sources point out the targeted destruction of many peoples and ethnic groups by the Soviet authorities. That is why this project is designed not only to save these histories in one place but to transfer the objective information about the tragedy to the next generations.
