According to the PEN Ukraine, The catalog Lomykamin. Women’s Resistance in Crimea was recognized as one of the 201 best Ukrainian books of 2024. Eligible entries included books published in Ukraine between December 2023 and December 2024.
Each year, for the past seven years, members of the PEN Ukraine compile a list of publications that have most impressed them throughout the year. In 2023, the list featured 179 books, while this year’s selection expanded to 201 entries. The list encompasses various genres, including prose, poetry, translations, drama, nonfiction, children’s literature, and works on arts and humanities. It reflects the dedication of Ukrainian authors, publishers, translators, and illustrators who continue to produce high-quality Ukrainian literature despite the challenges posed by Russian aggression and its consequences.
The catalog Lomykamin. Women’s Resistance in Crimea is a photographic adaptation of the eponymous exhibition exploring women’s experiences in war and occupation. It tells the stories of women whose lives have been profoundly affected by the war but who, despite immense challenges, emerge as powerful forces of resistance—fighting for freedom and protecting their families, communities, country, and identity. The project highlights their vulnerability and extraordinary strength, solidarity, and ability to confront injustice.
