On June 3 and 5, the final public tours of the exhibition Shadow of Water will take place at the Office of the Mission. The exhibition has received numerous warm responses and expressions of gratitude toward the curators and artists. Thanks to their work, many visitors were able to emotionally immerse themselves in the space of their native Crimea. The exhibition is dedicated to 11 years of resistance to the occupation of the peninsula.
Shadow of Water explores invisible, intimate forms of resistance that take root in silence — in preserved family heirlooms, in memories passed down through generations, and in art that documents both loss and hope. The exhibition’s centerpiece features works by Crimean Tatar artists who, despite forced emigration or life under occupation, maintain a connection to their homeland through creativity, language, and rituals.
Alongside are artistic expressions by Ukrainian artists from the Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions — places that have also faced occupation. The exhibition speaks to the shared trauma and unity in resistance: each featured artist creates their own archive of defiance, where culture becomes a means of preserving identity, shaping memory, and affirming resilience in the face of hardship.
