Anton Korynevich’s statement concerned the provision of reliable information on the violation of human rights by the Russian Federation on the territory of the Crimean peninsula.

“Political persecution leads to the illegal detention of our citizens for demonstrating their pro-Ukrainian position and turning them into political prisoners on charges of extremism, terrorism etc. Today, there are at least 94 Ukrainian citizens who are political prisoners detained by the occupation authorities. Most of them are Crimean Tatars. Crimea became a «grey zone», where any violations are possible: forced recruitment into the armed forces of the occupier, militarization of the educational process for children in temporarily occupied Crimea, obliteration of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar national identity by the Russian occupation authorities, persecution and destruction of the Ukrainian Church”, the Permanent Representative told.

The presentation focused on the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation in temporarily occupied Crimea was close to catastrophic, and the Russian occupation authorities were unable to fulfil their obligations to protect the civilian population and to care for the lives and health of the Crimean people. There are not enough beds in hospitals, hospitals refuse hospitalization, patients are transferred from hospitals to sanatoriums where they are left without medical assistance, there is no possibility to take a COVID test voluntarily, people sometimes have to wait for more than 24 hours, As long as an ambulance arrives, there are no essential drugs in pharmacies, statistics on the COVID situation in Crimea are distorted by the Russian occupation authorities, there is no objective information, and compliance with quarantine measures is not monitored.

The team of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is grateful to the diplomats – representatives of the European Union countries for the attention they pay to the Crimean issue and interest in participating in the Crimean platform, presented by the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Emine Djeparova. In her statement, she also invited EU member States to participate in the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform scheduled for the first half of 2021.
