On June 11, as part of the activities of the Crimea Platform, an online meeting was held for participants of the International Conference Crimea Global, which took place in Kyiv in 2023 and 2024. Today’s meeting brought together experts from various regions of the world, including India, Indonesia, Argentina, Mexico, the Philippines, Kenya, Brazil, and Türkiye. The meeting was moderated by Daria Piskun, Chief Consultant of the Crimea Platform Department.
Daria Piskun informed the participants about the current situation in occupied Crimea and the systematic crimes committed by Russia, which pose a serious threat not only to Ukraine but also to the entire world.
In particular, attention was drawn to the militarization of the Crimean Peninsula, the human rights situation, the destruction of cultural heritage sites, pressure on representatives of Ukraine’s Indigenous peoples, and the environmental impact.
The meeting participants — scholars, journalists, and experts — discussed the key challenges related to the international perception of the Crimean issue. The critical need to counter Russian propaganda, which is actively disseminated in countries across Asia, Africa, South and Central America, was emphasized.
The participants also emphasized the importance of engaging youth, the academic community, and journalists in gaining a deeper understanding of the context of Crimea’s occupation and Russia’s war against Ukraine in general. They shared their own initiatives that could contribute to raising awareness about Crimea and increasing global awareness of the peninsula. The experts also reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine and their willingness to continue participating in various activities within the framework of Crimea Global.
As a reminder, the International Conference Crimea Global was initiated by the Mission / Office of the Crimea Platform and partners from the civil society sector in 2023. The conference aims to exchange experiences and perspectives among countries in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, and to disseminate information about Ukraine, particularly about Crimea — an integral part of its territory.
Thank you to all the participants of the online meeting for joining!
