Crimes of occupation
- As of June 12, it is known that the occupiers have illegally imprisoned 181 Ukrainian citizens, 117 of whom are representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people. Out of the total number, 32 political prisoners are arrested, 130 are imprisoned, 18 have no status, and 1 has been released but is still in a temporary detention center for foreign nationals in Russia.
- As of May 30, 379 “cases” have been opened under the absurd accusation of so-called “discrediting the Russian Armed Forces”, namely under Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation. Out of the total number of “cases”, the occupation courts issued 326 illegal rulings on fines ranging from 30 thousand to 75 thousand rubles.
- The occupying country has also provided for criminal liability for the so-called “discrediting the Russian Armed Forces” – Articles 207.3 and 280.3 of the Criminal Code. Under these articles, 2 and 3 illegal verdicts were passed in the occupied Crimea, respectively. Details are in our reference: https://cutt.ly/x5KlaYs
- According to the Crimean Solidarity, the occupiers transferred Asan and Aziz Akhtemov to the pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Simferopol, where the conditions of detention are much worse – the political prisoners were deprived of their belongings and food, and forced to learn the Russian anthem. The pressure on the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelal is also ongoing.
- According to the Crimean Solidarity, the occupiers have been holding journalist and political prisoner Marlen Asanov in a penal isolation cell of a penal colony in the village of Sosnovka, Mordovia, for more than a month.
- Water in Staryi Krym will be supplied every other day from 5:00 to 17:00 – the occupiers have warned of interruptions, partial or complete absence of water supply. The rest of the time, the branch of “Water of Crimea” plans to organize the delivery of drinking water.
- Seyran Khayredinov, illegally sentenced by the occupiers to 12 years, spent a week in the Interregional Tuberculosis Hospital in Rostov, where he was taken in critical condition. Zarem Khayredinov’s wife said that on May 21, a rash appeared in the liver area, and the next day it grew and a fever appeared. The political prisoner was examined in the medical unit of the detention center, but was hospitalized only after being forced to participate in the trial via video link.
- According to the National Resistance Center, the occupiers are preparing to move the population and steal material and cultural values – the occupation administrations in the north of the peninsula have been instructed to prepare for “evacuation”. According to information from the Crimean underground, such preparations have already taken place in Armyansk. Representatives of the occupation administrations and their families, equipment and documents will be taken out first.
Militarization of the Crimean peninsula
- Residents of the occupied Crimea continue to record the activity of Russian fighter jets firing missiles towards the mainland of Ukraine on a daily basis. There are also reports of missiles being launched from the Black Sea in the same directions.
- In the temporarily occupied Crimea, the demand for rental housing and hotel room reservations for the summer has fallen to a record low of 1%.
- The occupiers in Crimea shot down a drone using electronic warfare, which turned out to be an Iranian Mohajer-6 drone – the same kind of drones the Russian army is launching at Ukrainian cities.
- The occupiers have installed additional defenses, namely concrete tetrahedrons called “dragon’s teeth,” on the administrative border of the occupied Crimea and Kherson region.
- Natalia Gumenyuk, spokesperson for the Operational Command “South,” said that the enemy’s logistics in Sevastopol bays are complicated: “They are already experiencing fuel shortages and problems with ammunition supplies. Therefore, enemy ships and missile carriers are entering Russian ports in the direction of Novorossiysk. But large landing ships are still maneuvering, entering the bays of Sevastopol and then Novorossiysk.”
- The occupiers began to fuss and equip tunnels in Sevastopol – measures have been taken in the city’s Quarantine Bay to allegedly restore shelters for the population.
- Russian soldiers are not allowing farmers in the north of Crimea to cultivate their fields, and residents of coastal villages have been warned that there will be no holiday season and that the beaches will be completely closed to civilians at any moment. In addition, activists recorded the requisitioning of property from children’s camps and information about the indefinite accommodation of military personnel in mini-hotels in regions where fortifications are being built on the coast.
Forced mobilization
- As of June 12, at least 394 soldiers of the Russian army have already been buried in occupied Crimea. 276 of them were probably Ukrainian citizens. The number of burials may be higher, as many of them take place without coverage.
- Occupation leaders continue mobilization activities, including the formation of “militia” and “territorial defense” units. Such units were created in Crimea and Sevastopol to allegedly “deter the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a possible offensive on the peninsula.
- It is also becoming known that the number of criminal “criminal cases” against citizens who evade service in the army of the occupying country is increasing – at least 30 of them have been filed since the beginning of 2023.
- We would like to remind you of our guide on how to avoid illegal service in the aggressor’s army: https://cutt.ly/vVIJLiQ.
Propaganda of the occupation administrations and incitement to hatred
- In Simferopol, the occupiers detained a tattoo artist who made pro-Ukrainian tattoos and shared photos of her work on social media. With the assistance, of course, of the occupation dog Talipov, the girl was forced to record a “video apology” and sing the occupiers’ anthem. This time, the occupiers surpassed their mental and imaginative capabilities and forced the girl to wear a helmet and bulletproof vest for the video.
- In Sevastopol, the occupiers decided to erect a memorial to Russian soldiers killed in the war against Ukraine – and they want to put this memorial on the pier where the cruiser “Moscow” was moored.
- At least 2 Crimean universities obliged students to take a “survey on their affiliation with anime, AUYA and Navalny”: questionnaires (indicating their district of residence and even nationality) were handed over from the deans’ offices. The students were forced to tell about their friends who belonged to subcultures, including “MKU, militants, drainers, officers, street art, blue whale, skinheads, nationalists, F-57, emo, goths, furries, vanilla, feminists.” Teachers were required to send a screenshot of the final page to confirm that they had completed the survey.
- The occupiers decided to introduce the so-called “new standards of education” in Crimean schools – according to these standards, the Crimean Tatar language will have the status of an optional subject from the new school year.
Publications of the occupation media
- The occupiers somewhat revitalized the selection of narratives this week: “Ukrainian terrorists blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station to leave Crimea without water”, “Crimea is not threatened with water shortages”, “the holiday season will take place, people are used to the fact that there is a “special operation”, they still need to rest and treat themselves”, “the entire territory of the former Ukraine should be returned to the Russian world”, “the Crimean militia has been formed in Crimea to protect the peninsula” and other similar nonsense.
- According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the occupied Crimea, in particular in Simferopol, there is a tendency for the local media to silence the fact of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the consequences of this crime by the occupiers. It is known that local occupation administrations are very concerned about possible panic among the population.
Public sentiment
- Despite the occupiers’ attempts to persecute our citizens for their pro-Ukrainian position, new inscriptions, posters, ribbons, publications, tattoos, etc. appear every day.
- The activists of the Crimean Fighting Seagulls underground group have prepared a new series of posters that have appeared in different parts of the still occupied peninsula. The CBGs also partially claimed responsibility for a “sabotage” on the railroad in the Kirovsky district of Crimea.
- The “Yellow Ribbon” resistance movement distributed more than 200 ribbons in Yalta last week. The activists also called on the residents of the occupied Crimea to burn Russian propaganda leaflets and booklets as part of the ongoing campaign “Burn Russian”.
- The Mission continues to receive inquiries from Ukrainian citizens who want to leave Crimea because they cannot tolerate the occupation and total propaganda. We remind you of our instructions on how to leave the temporarily occupied Crimea: https://cutt.ly/YV8zdBz
❗️ We thank the conscious Ukrainian citizens in the occupied Crimea for promptly reporting on the situation on the Crimean peninsula, in particular on the socio-economic situation, the movement of Russian troops, the movement of resistance to the occupation, etc. For more information, please send an e-mail to the Information Support Department of the Mission:
