Permanent Representative Olha Kuryshko met with Ilhan Kyuchyuk, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs and mentor to political prisoner Tymur Ibrahimov, in Brussels.
During the meeting, they discussed the development of the mentoring programme for the support of political prisoners. Attention was also given to the adoption of decisions and resolutions that could strengthen the protection of Indigenous peoples, counter the policy of persecution, and facilitate the release of political prisoners.
Russia continues to persecute and illegally imprison Ukrainians in temporarily occupied Crimea. Currently, it is known that 286 individuals are subjected to a policy of judicial persecution in the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, 159 of whom are Crimean Tatars.
The Mission emphasises that international support and attention to these issues remain critically important for the protection of the rights and freedoms of the peninsula’s residents.
