Permanent Representative Tamila Tasheva attended the Expert Discussion “Effectiveness of Countering Russian Disinformation in Ukraine in the Context of Full-scale War” in the third session on the topic “Post-War Period. From de-occupation of territories to de-occupation of information space”.
The event was held at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Centre and organised by the Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communication.
Along with Ms Tasheva, the participants of the third session were: Dzvenyslava Shcherba, journalist and analyst at Internews Ukraine, Tetyana Stroy, executive director of the Donetsk Press Club, Iryna Eigelson, PhD in Psychology, senior researcher at the Centre for Mediation and Dialogue Studies, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Ihor Rozkladai, deputy director of the Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law.
“Crimea has been occupied for almost a decade. All information and educational spheres were forcibly integrated into the systems of the terrorist country. We are talking about the absence of independent media, the militarisation of education, and a rather narrative field consisting of slogans that Ukraine is an enemy that must be fought against with arms in hand,” the Permanent Representative said about the challenges Ukraine will face after the de-occupation of the Crimean peninsula.
Ms Tasheva told the audience about the Strategy of Cognitive De-occupation, which the Mission is working on together with experts, and which is primarily aimed at working with our citizens and their integration into the life of the Ukrainian state.
The Permanent Representative also shared more information about the vision of the future of Crimea: its economic and informational recovery, the cognitive de-occupation of our citizens, and the satisfaction of the peninsula’s residents’ need for justice and the establishment of the rule of law.
“We need to balance the approaches between protecting human rights and ensuring security and inevitability of punishment for those responsible for crimes,” the Permanent Representative said.
Tamila Tasheva spoke more about the strategic documents on which the Mission worked together with the expert community, the administrative and civil society sectors, MPs and, of course, the Office of the President.
We are grateful to the Media Centre Ukraine – Ukrinform for organising the Expert Discussion and holding it at a high level!
