Illegally sentenced by the occupiers to 7 years in prison, civilian journalist Iryna Danilovych complained about violations of her rights. The political prisoner’s statement was sent to the occupation “prosecutor’s office”.
Since March, despite having permission to make phone calls, Ms. Danilovich has not been allowed to call her father to ask him to bring her medicine. On May 23, she informed the so-called “Public Oversight Commission” and the SIZO administration that she had not been able to call her family for two weeks to ask them to bring the medicines prescribed by her doctor so that she could begin treatment. In response, one of the SIZO staff members told her to write letters instead of trying to get a phone call. The occupiers ignored the complaint about this situation.
According to the statements of the illegally imprisoned woman published by the ZMINA Human Rights Center, Iryna Danilovych also complained that she had sent 6 letters to her lawyer since April, and only one of them reached the addressee.
Ms. Danilovich’s health condition is deteriorating every day. At the last court hearing, she could hardly hear the questions, and despite all the requests to provide qualified medical care, the occupation doctors continue to falsely claim that she is healthy. The activist may completely lose her hearing, which will lead to disability.
The Mission demands the immediate revocation of the illegal sentence against Ukrainian citizen Irina Danilovich and the activist’s release. We draw the attention of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to another violation of the rights and freedoms of a Ukrainian citizen.
We call on the international community to respond to yet another unprecedented injustice and increase pressure on the Russian Federation, which, together with the occupation administrations of Crimea under its control, blatantly ignores all international humanitarian law.
Political persecution, repressions and illegal sentences in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea must stop immediately, and all perpetrators must be held accountable for their crimes, which is impossible without the complete de-occupation of the Ukrainian peninsula.
