The Permanent Representative Tamila Tasheva took part in the Conference “Remembering History – Returning Territory” dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide.
Ms. Tasheva joined the panel discussion on “The Future of Crimea” together with Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Representative of the Commissioner for the Rights of the Residents of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol Elvin Kadyrov, public and political activist Arsen Zhumadilov and Head of the Group for Monitoring the State of Cultural Heritage in the Occupied Territories of the Crimean Institute for Strategic Studies Denys Yashnyi.
The Permanent Representative reminded the participants that it is also important to talk about the future of Crimea in the context of the indigenous peoples of Crimea, who have historically formed and lived on the peninsula. Accordingly, all future policies on the reintegration of the Crimean peninsula should take into account the opinion of indigenous peoples, in particular, the Crimean Tatar people, who are the most subjective.
Tamila Tasheva also spoke about the work of the Ukrainian state in all areas of regaining control over Crimea, and in particular, about the work of the Mission on the restoration of the peninsula: “We have a clear vision of Crimea, what it will become after liberation. It will definitely be a territory where the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, in particular the Crimean Tatars, will be able to exercise their rights without hindrance, where their culture and history will be preserved.”
The Mission sincerely thanks the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, the ZMINA Human Rights Center and the NGO CrimeaSOS for organizing this important commemorative event.
Crimea will be liberated soon, and all those who were forced to leave their homes in 2014 will cross its threshold again!
