On 26 June at 10:00, a ceremonial raising of the Crimean Tatar flag was held near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The event was attended by the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Olha Kuryshko; Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mariana Betsa; Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Yevhen Perebyinis; Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for Digital Development, Chief Digital Transformation Officer, Anton Demokhin; Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh; State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleksandr Karasevych; and Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Refat Chubarov.
Olha Kuryshko emphasized that the Mission is proud to contribute to the broad effort of upholding and defending the rights of Ukraine’s Indigenous peoples, including the Crimean Tatars.
“The Crimean Tatar flag has accompanied its people through every chapter of their history — occupation, famine, deportation and return. Today, we are determined to see it flying once more beside Ukraine’s national flag over a liberated Crimea,” the Permanent Representative said.
Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yehven Perebyinis noted that the Crimean Tatar flag has withstood waves of deportations and occupations, and that the Russian-Ukrainian war began precisely with the occupation of Crimea — where the Crimean Tatars were the first to resist and oppose the invaders. He expressed his gratitude to all Crimean Tatars who continue to resist and work tirelessly to expose the truth about the Russian regime.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov emphasized that commemorating Crimean Tatar Flag Day has become a significant tradition in contemporary history. The flag, he said, symbolizes the resilience of the people and their inseparable connection to the land that shaped them. Refat Chubarov expressed confidence that Crimea will be liberated thanks to the courage of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, and that the Crimean Tatar flag will once again fly alongside the national flag of Ukraine over a free Crimea.
The Permanent Representative expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their cooperation and emphasized that this joint effort demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to unity in pursuit of a shared goal — the liberation of Crimea.
