Permanent Representative Tamila Tasheva met with the Crimean Tatar diaspora representatives in Türkiye and Romania. The representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, particularly the Chairman of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov, attended the meeting.
The visit was the first trip of the representatives of the Crimean Tatar diaspora to Ukraine since the beginning of the large-scale Russian aggression. It demonstrated our country’s support in wartime conditions, particularly in the context of the Third Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, which will be held on October 24 in Riga.

During her speech, the Permanent Representative described the steps taken by the Ukrainian state to protect the rights of the Indigenous peoples of Ukraine, in particular, the adoption of the Law “On Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine,” the opening of the Memorial to the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide and other aspects.
“We are pleased that in cooperation with the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and other organizations, we were able to open the Memorial to the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide on the day of the Fourth Crimea Platform Summit on September 11. This is a powerful call for the international community to recognize the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as genocide. Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Canada, and Poland have already recognized the deportation of 1944 as genocide,” Tamila Tasheva noted.
The Permanent Representative emphasized the importance of establishing the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies with the support of First Lady Olena Zelenska. She emphasized the coalition’s goal of uniting initiatives and programs dedicated to studying Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar language, culture, and history in academic centers worldwide. Tamila Tasheva emphasized the importance of opening and developing such educational centers in the territories of states with a large Crimean Tatar diaspora.
The Permanent Representative expressed her gratitude to the delegations of the Crimean Tatar diaspora of Romania and Türkiye for supporting Ukraine during the war and invited them to participate in the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform.
