Today, the Permanent Representative met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine, Alle Dorhout 🇳🇱🇺🇦.
Throughout his diplomatic service, Alle Dorhout has held numerous positions within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including Head of the Political Department at the Netherlands Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador-at-Large, and Special Envoy for Counterterrorism. Since September 2022, he served as Director of the Intelligence Division of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. In August of this year, he presented his credentials to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed interest in the current situation in occupied Crimea, the support Ukraine’s mainland provides to residents of the peninsula, and the main areas of focus of the Mission. The Permanent Representative explained that, under direct instructions from President Zelenskyy, the Mission is working on policies for Crimea’s reintegration, specifically concerning the restoration of public institutions on the peninsula, the development of a personnel reserve, and other key areas.
Given the Ambassador’s historical background, he also showed interest in the history of Crimea, particularly the period of the Crimean Khanate. The discussion highlighted Russia’s implementation of colonial policies on the peninsula.
The Permanent Representative emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine’s Peace Formula, which includes adherence to the United Nations Charter and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the global order. She also underscored Ukraine’s recent achievements in the Black Sea, where, despite not having its own fleet, Ukraine, with Western support, succeeded in destroying a third of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, enabling the grain corridor to operate.
The meeting also touched on the resistance movement in occupied Crimea, with the Permanent Representative noting that almost every second person facing persecution in Crimea for solidarity with mainland Ukraine and under pressure is a woman.
In conclusion, the Permanent Representative highlighted the outcomes of this year’s Governmental and Parliamentary Summits of the Crimea Platform and noted preparations for the upcoming second international conference Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South. She also urged support for recognizing the deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide.
