President Petro Poroshenko met with relatives of Serhiy Tsybizov, one of the Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia. Petro Poroshenko expressed words of support to the relatives of Serhiy. He emphasized that Serhiy and other Ukrainian military were true heroes. The President noted that during the Russian military attack, they had acted in full compliance with the requirements of international law.
The President informed of the measures taken by the state in the issue of release of the servicemen. He noted that, according to international law, the Ukrainian soldiers are prisoners of war.
Petro Poroshenko also noted that he had a series of telephone conversations with leaders of the European Union and other countries of the world. In particular, during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine’s demand for the release of Ukrainian servicemen and the return of illegally seized ships. “We enjoy full support of our international partners,” he said.
The Head of State also assured that he constantly kept that issue under control. In particular, providing full legal assistance to all prisoners of war. The corresponding instructions were given by the Head of State to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President also instructed the Head of the Khmelnytskyi RSA to keep in touch with the family of Serhiy Tsybizov and provide all the necessary assistance.
