The Permanent Representative met with Jānis Skrastiņš, the head of the group of deputies of the Saeima of Latvia for promoting cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the head of the Saeima’s group of deputies supporting the Crimea Platform. During the meeting, the parties discussed the consequences of Russia’s occupation of Crimea for international security, the activities of the Crimea Platform, and the outcomes of this year’s summit, which took place on September 11 in Kyiv. The Permanent Representative highlighted human rights violations in occupied Crimea and emphasized that Russia’s war against Ukraine began with the occupation of Crimea, and it must end with the liberation and reintegration of the peninsula.
The Permanent Representative also added that the transformation of the peninsula into a platform for the full-scale invasion has turned Crimea into a place where repressive Russian laws are applied against its residents. Despite this, the resistance to occupation continues.
She outlined the key areas of the Mission’s work, particularly the development of policies for the reintegration of the Crimean Peninsula.
We express our gratitude to the Republic of Latvia for its comprehensive support of Ukraine, its active participation in the Crimea Platform Summits, and the organization of this year’s Parliamentary Summit.
