Today Tamila Tasheva, the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, met with Jarosław Guzy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine.
The meeting was also attended by Maria Tomak, Head of the Crimea Platform Support Service, and Monika Wiatrzyk, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Poland.
Ms. Tasheva congratulated Mr. Guzy on his recent appointment as Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine and expressed gratitude to Poland for its systematic and significant support of Ukraine in countering Russia’s large-scale aggression, as well as for its continued participation in the Crimea Platform summits.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary expressed support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine but noted that international support for Ukraine is unfortunately insufficient and comes too slowly.
The Permanent Representative told about the resistance movements in the occupied Crimea, illegal detentions, and imprisonment of Ukrainian citizens who expressed pro-Ukrainian positions and informed about the reintegration policies on Crimea developed by the Mission’s team.
The parties discussed the needs and support of the Crimean Tatar diaspora in Poland, raised the issue of Poland’s recognition of the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 as an act of genocide, and confirmed the importance and urgency of combating Russian myths about the history and affiliation of Crimea, which are still widespread in the minds of many members of the international community.
Ms. Tasheva and Ms. Tomak handed over to the Ambassador a list of Crimean political prisoners for possible involvement of Polish intellectuals and politicians in the advocacy mentoring initiative.
Particular attention was paid to discussing possible academic programs of cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish historians, taking into account the Ambassador’s historical education.
