The Seimas of Lithuania recognized the crimes, committed against the Crimea Tartars in 1944 and condemned elimination and deportation of Crimean Tartar People from the Crimean peninsula, their motherland to uninhabited regions of the Middle Asia that was planned and carried out by the total Soviet regime in 1944. This resulted in death of the majority of deported Crimean Tartars caused by hunger, disease, tortures and hard labor.

The Resolution of the Seimas condemned the illegal occupation and annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014 as well as discrimination against civilians and Crimean Tartars, based on mother tongue, culture, religion, nationality and banning of Crimean Tartars’ self- governmental body.

Seimas called on the international community to show solidarity with the Crimean Tartar People and continued the policy of non-recognition of the Crimean occupation by the Russian Federation and annexation of part of Ukraine in 2014.

According to the Seimas website, the Resolution was approved by 77 votes in favor and one abstention.
