Ukrainian citizen Maryna Ryff has disappeared in temporarily occupied Crimea. There has been no contact with her for about half a year.
According to the Crimean Human Rights Group, her disappearance became known on 12 November 2025. On that day, Maryna went to one of the so-called migration institutions in Simferopol. As a matter of principle, she had not obtained a Russian passport and continued to live using her Ukrainian documents. Contact with her was lost immediately after this visit.
Later, human rights defenders learned that the occupation “Kyivskyi District Court” of Simferopol sentenced Maryna to 14 days of administrative arrest. She was accused of alleged “demonstration of extremist symbols” and “discrediting the Russian army”.
Since then, there has been no confirmed information about her fate. Her relatives assume that the woman might be held in one of the pre-trial detention centres in Simferopol, but there is no official data confirming this.
Human rights defenders believe that Maryna’s persecution is politically motivated. She is a Crimean who openly supported Ukraine, consciously refused a Russian passport, and continued to live on the peninsula despite the pressure.
Russia continues to impose its passports on the residents of Crimea, creating conditions of pressure and persecution for those who refuse to obtain them. The Mission condemns the actions of the occupiers and considers them a violation of human rights.
