In April, 18 at the Crimean House (Kyiv) the officials of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the ARC took part in the discussion “235 years of the First Annexation of Crimea by Russia: Preconditions and Conclusions”. The participants of the event were the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov, historian and TV host Gulnara Bekirova, head of the Department of Analysis of Regional Peculiarities and Policies of National Minorities of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Bogdan Korolenko, Rector of the Taurida National University named after V.I. Vernadsky Vladimir Kazarin, Program Director of the Crimean House Alium Aliyev, public activists, journalists.
During the discussion, the historical background and preconditions for the first annexation of the Crimea by the Russian Empire – the inclusion of the Crimean Khanate in its composition that took place in 1783 and the deportation of Crimean Tatars from their native land was discussed. The speakers held a parallel between the events of the First annexation of 1783 and the Second annexation of Crimea to Russia in 2014, and analyzed the possibility of applying the experience of different generations in order to return Crimea.
