On March 22 the Chief Consultants of the Departments of International Connections and Legal Analysis of the Mission took part in the in the public discussion “Audit of foreign policy: Ukraine-Latvia”.
The event was attended by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine Juris Poikans, Deputy Director of the Center “New Europe” Catherine Zarembo, an expert of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs Elizabeth Vizgunova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Andrejs Pildegovichs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Boddnar, People’s Deputy, the head of the Ukraine group on interparliamentary relations with the Republic of Latvia in Verkhovna Rada Alexander Kodola, representatives of Human Rights Defenders` groups and public organizations.

During the event, the participants discussed the general history between Ukraine and Latvia, Ukraine’s relations with EU member states, business, educational, political and agrarian relations between the countries. Existing problems in Ukrainian-Latvian relations were announced, and the mutual interests of Ukraine and a number of strategically important states, the use of positive and negative experiences of EU countries in carrying out internal reforms with the purpose of working out recommendations for an active foreign policy of Ukraine were considered.
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia said during the speech that Latvia condemned Russia’s actions and actively raised the issue of illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula on all international platforms, conducted active work to counter Russian propaganda in the territory of the EU countries and in every way supported Ukraine in the international arena
