Ukraine is a unique state, which has been adopting and implementing the principles of democracy for centuries. Modern Constitution of Ukraine is the result of the long, thorny way of state-building beginning from the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, the Constitution of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Laws on the temporary government of Ukraine by Pavlo Skoropadskyi.

Dear compatriots!

A profound reform of some of the provisions of the Basic Law is aimed at complete modernization of the Constitution of independent Ukraine, bringing it in compliance with the high standards of the world’s leading democratic countries, which will ensure the final integration of Ukraine into the European space and the decent exercise of the rights and freedoms by every citizen.

At the initiative of the President of Ukraine, the Constitutional Commission has set up a working group, which has to work out proposals for amendments and additions to Section X of the Constitution of Ukraine concerning the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Amendments and additions have to ensure the inalienable right of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination within the sovereign independent Ukrainian state and full and comprehensive guarantee of equal rights and civil freedoms to ethnic Ukrainians and other ethnic groups of Crimea.

Let selflessness and perseverance be obstacles for the Russian aggression, restore peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, return freedom to the temporarily occupied territories.
