On 30 May 2019 press conference on theme: “March widespread arrests in Crimea: what happens to detainees today and what assistance do they need” has been held in the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center with the participation of the head of Mejlis of Crimean Tartar People, People’s Deputy Refat Chubarov, political detainees’ family members and their advocates.
Participants of the press conference told about a mass house searches and arrests of Crimean Tartars, carried out by the Russian Federal Security Service in the temporarily occupied Crimea in March this year, including intimidations, tortures, moral abuse against the indigenous population of the Ukrainian autonomy and other forms of repressions, used by the Russian authorities since the occupation of the peninsula.
Refat Chubarov, during his speech focused on the systemic pressure, carried out by Russia in order to disabuse people of their powers and as the consequences to make the Indigenous People of Crimea to leave their land.
The head of Mejlis of Crimean Tartar People also noted that the only way of stopping repressions against the population was the de-occupation of the peninsula.
During the event, it became known about today’s detention of activists of Crimean Solidarity Lutfie Zudieva and Mumine Salieva by the occupying authorities.
