On 13 may 2019 in the Kherson State Regional Administration, a working group met to resolve issues regarding the commemorative events to be held on 18 May, the Remembrance Day of the Crimean Tatars’ Genocide. The meeting was headed by Dmytro Butriy, the acting head of the Kherson Regional State Administration and Izet Hdanov, the First Deputy of the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in AR of Crimea with the participation of the self –governmental authorities, officials of the regional departments and Mejlis of Crimean Tatars People.
A number of memorial events, devoted to the 75th anniversary of Crimean Tatars’ deportation are scheduled to be held in Kherson city and region during a week. The commemorative events of the 18th of May include the ceremony of the Memorial sign opening near the cinema and concert hall “Yubileynyi”, requiem and participation in All – Ukrainian minute of silence.
Izet Hdanov once again stressed that the Remembrance Day of the Crimean Tatars’ Genocide was adopted by the resolution of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dated 12 November 2015 № 792-VIII “On the recognition of the deportation the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide”. Nevertheless, a mass entertainment events, including concerts and festivals will be held in many cities.
The Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea calls on the authorities of the regional state administrations and cities’ leadership to respect the commemoration of the Crimean Tartar’s genocide and requires postponing all entertainments, scheduled on this day ato later dates.
