On October 17, 2018 the Head of the Department of International Connections of the Mission Yevhen Samukha participated in the memorial event, devoted to the Ukrainian Human Rights defender of Soviet period Petro Grygorovytch Grygorenko. He was famous for his active participation in the struggle of Crimea Tatar People, being nder the Soviet deportation, to return their homeland in Crimea.
During the event, held in the “Crimean House” the documentary movie “General – Human Rights defender Petro Grygorenko” was shown. The participants exchanged of views and memories about the personality of Petro Grygorenko, the evolution of his ideology and his difficult vital way from successful Soviet General to implacable opposition hardliner.
In particular, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev shared his impressions from the personal acquaintance with the General and with their common activities in the national Crimean Tatars movement in the resistance to the Soviet regime. The Head of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov emphasized the participation of Petro Grygorenko in the development of the Ukrainian State, as the heritage of the Human Rights defender has contributed to the building of modern political nation, which is ready to fight for liberation of Crimea, said Mr. Chubarov.
