The Mission continues to hold meetings with residents of Crimea who are leaving the occupation. This time, the team spoke with Artem Derevianko, who left the peninsula in 2020 and sought assistance with processing documents in Ukrainian-controlled territory.

In particular, while applying for a Ukrainian passport, Artem encountered difficulties recording his registered place of residence in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. To protect his rights, the Mission assisted in obtaining clarifications from the State Migration Service regarding the confirmation of his registration in Crimea and the declaration of his actual place of residence in Kyiv.
Also, with the Mission’s support, Artem obtained a tax identification number, an internally displaced person (IDP) certificate, and a military registration document.
The Mission team expresses its gratitude to Artem for his trust. His story is an important example of preserving Ukrainian identity under occupation and the aspiration to exercise one’s rights as a citizen of Ukraine. This cooperation helps to further improve support mechanisms for residents of temporarily occupied Crimea moving to territory controlled by the Government of Ukraine.
