The event was organized jointly by the Charitable Fund “Right to Protection” (Ukraine) and the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia, with the support of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (ODIHR/OSCE).
The event was attended by the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych. His speech was about the national model of the Concept of Transitional Justice and challenges that arise because of internal displacement. Vladyslav Miroshnychenko from the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, also spoke about the Mission’s initiatives in the field of ensuring the implementation of IDPs rights.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On priority areas of activity of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” ensuring the rights of internally displaced persons from the TOT of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol is one of the main tasks of the Mission.
With the active participation of the Mission, a number of measures have been implemented. For example, of the initiative of the President of Ukraine in cooperation with the Mission, Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Kherson Regional State Administration, other public and business authorities, created conditions for comfortable crossing of the checkpoints “Chongar” and “Kalanchak” (updated regime zones of entry and exit, opened centers for administrative services).
In addition, in the Strategy for Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol it is stated that “the preconditions for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territory is, in particular, the solution of the problems of internally displaced persons. Ukraine guarantees of ensuring the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of IDPs.
Special thanks to the hosts of the event, participants from Ukraine and Georgia for an important expert discussion on overcoming challenges in the field of internal displacement, as well as successful and unsuccessful practices of ensuring the implementation of IDP rights in the framework of transitional justice processes in Georgia and Ukraine.
