The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Borys Babin together with the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov and the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Ilma Umerov took part (via Skype) in the session of the Coordinating Council of Support of Ukraine at the Ukrainian World Congress on the topic “The Interaction between Ukraine and its diasporas in the context of the de-occupation of Crimea: protection of human rights and international support” held on October 28th.
The Permanent Representative reported to the Coordinating Council about the objectives of the Representative Office and about its practical activities within the past two months. The emphasis was placed on strengthening of the international relations of the Representative Office to perform its objectives and orders of the President of Ukraine. Borys Babin paid special attention to the practical measures in the context of successive steps of diaspora towards the de-occupation of the Crimea. The forms of distribution of information about Crimea from the official sources and national media by diaspora in the form of translation into the national languages of the countries of residence were discussed. A necessity of start-up of information on-line websites about Crimea in the countries of residence of diaspora was noted too.
The Permanent Representative appealed to the diaspora community to conduct a public monitoring of position of the national, regional or local authorities, big business, mass media and educational establishment of the country of residence in relation to Crimea. The particular attention was paid to the monitoring of adherence to sanctions against Crimea by the business structures of these countries, necessity of initiating the legal proceeding by the public organizations of Ukrainians in case of violations. A necessity of cooperation between the organizations of ethnic Ukrainians and diasporas of indigenous people of Crimea in the USA, Turkey, Central Asian countries, the Baltics, the Balkans, and Central Europe, in particular to assist the representatives of indigenous people of Ukraine in obtaining the status of foreign Ukrainians.
Borys Babin called on the foreign Ukrainians and their organizations of participating in the conferences and events held by the international governmental and non-governmental authorities, humanitarian and educational establishments regarding Crimea more active.
