In the framework of the working visit to Kherson region, President Petro Poroshenko took part in the “Relay of Sea Generations” on the occasion of the initiation ceremony of the Kherson State Maritime Academy.
The Head of State called the Kherson State Maritime Academy one of the leading centers of maritime education with a powerful training base. “Today, the best sons and daughters of Ukraine are among the students,” he said, adding that “the fact that a large number of boys and girls want to become cadets means that there is a firm belief in the fantastic future of the maritime state of Ukraine”.
“Your graduates are a reliable foundation for the future of the national fleet and they will continue the glorious traditions of the great maritime state of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko noted. He stressed the importance of the fact that among the students of the Academy there are 108 cadets from Crimea: “This became possible due to the fact that the Verkhovna Rada adopted my proposals and signed a law that allows the Crimeans to demonstrate under a simplified procedure that they are Ukraine”.
The Head of the State is also noted that few people know that after finishing school he entered the High Maritime School: “Because I had been dreaming of the sea…I had already become a master cadet when I received a letter that I simultaneously entered the Institute of Foreign Relations. The fate deprived me of sea way. However, this dream remains in my heart forever”
Petro Poroshenko also noted that the Kherson State Maritime Academy is working closely with international investors, which made it possible to bring the training base to the world level. “I personally became confident about that in 2016 when visiting your educational institution. It is very important that Mr. Hermann Eden, Head of Marlow Navigation investor company, is present at today`s event. I am strongly convinced in the fantastic prospects of the Kherson State Maritime Academy,” the President added. The Head of State wished the cadets of the academy “to properly study and master the professions that are necessary for the peaceful development of Ukraine”.
