During the meeting the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier who is in Ukraine within a two – days official visit  discussed the release of Ukrainian hostages who are in jail in the occupied territory and in Russia.

“Of course, we paid special attention to the release of Ukrainian hostages, hostages in the occupied territory. The process of liberation of which, after a successful operation in December last year, was suspended by the Russian Federation and militants under its control,” President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during the joint press conference with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“We emphasize the necessity of the immediate release of Ukrainian servicemen, Ukrainian activists and volunteers retained in the occupied territory and political prisoners illegally retained in the occupied Crimea and prisons of the Russian Federation, including Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, Volodymyr Balukh and many other political prisoners who are in jail only because they refused to give up the Ukrainian passport and accept Russian citizenship,” the Head of State noted.
