On March 30 the Chief Consultant of the Department of the Legal Analysis of the Mission Oleg Butrey participated in the Seminar on problematic issues of vessels movement monitoring in the Ukraine’s area of responsibility held by the State Enterprise “Marine Search and Rescue Service” of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Particularly those issues are important for the territorial sea of Ukraine around the Crimean peninsula the territory of the exclusive (maritime) economic zone of Ukraine along the coast of the Crimean peninsula and the coastal continental shelf of Ukraine. The participants of the seminar were the representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Main Directorate of SSU in ARC as well as the Deputy Director for Search and Rescue, Chief of the National Data Center for Long Range Identification and Control of Vessels of the State Enterprise “Marine Search and Rescue Service.”
During the meeting it was discussed the issues of vessels’ movement, their identification, their dimensions, course, and other data using the radio waves of the very high frequency by Automatic Identification System in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at the Sea (SOLAS). The meeting resulted in establishing the common position on accumulation and using of statistic, dynamic and voyage data got from the Automatic Identification System about the violations of the navigation in waters around Crimea.
