On May 26, 2014, he left home and did not return. Witnesses and relatives of the activist reported that members of the so-called “Crimean self-defense forces” were involved in his disappearance.
On May 24, 2016, another activist Ervin Ibragimov was abducted.
According to human rights organizations 44 people became victims of enforced disappearances during the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol provides procedural guidance in 270 criminal proceedings on more than 400 cases of violation of the right to life and health, enforced disappearance, imprisonment, kidnapping, torture and inhuman treatment since the occupation.
In the vast majority of criminal proceedings, the pre-trial investigation established the involvement of representatives of the occupying state and its occupation administration in the commission of these crimes.
Currently, the relevant investigations by Ukrainian law enforcement are complicated by the lack of access to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The Russian Federation, as the occupying power, is responsible for the enforced disappearances.
We are convinced that the truth about these terrible crimes will become known to the public, and the perpetrators will be punished.
