President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the World Economic Forum, which is taking place in Davos from 19 to 23 January. In his speech, he noted the importance of engaging the international community in resolving security issues in Europe, ensuring the resilience of democratic societies, preserving the rules-based world order, and realizing the cost of inaction in the face of aggression.
The President also emphasised in his address:
“If Russian warships are sailing freely around Greenland, Ukraine can help – we have the expertise and weapons to ensure not one of those ships remains. They can sink near Greenland just as they do near Crimea. No problem – we have the tools, and we have people. For us, the sea is not the first line of defence, so we can take action, and we know how to fight there. If we were asked, and if Ukraine were in NATO – but we are not – we would solve this problem with the Russian ships.”
Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated its capability to counteract the Russian fleet, in particular achieving significant success in the Black Sea, as a result of which Russia was forced to effectively withdraw its fleet following a series of successful military operations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, carried out, inter alia, with the use of high-quality Western weaponry.
In addition, during a special session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Europe to tighten sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet to halt oil exports and deprive Russia of funds to wage the war.
